Sri Lanka is a tiny island in Indian Ocean known as "Pearl of the Indian Ocean" which has more than 2500 years of continuous written history. After the recent defeat of the separatist Tamil Tiger movement (LTTE)it can be considered as a safe place to visit.
Sri Lanka's richest and most dramatic archaeological heritage sites spanned across a triangle (The Cultural Triangle) having Anuradhapura, Polonnaruva, and Kandy as three corners.
The Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka consists of several
UNESCO named World Heritage sites. Namely, Polonnaruwa (Second Kingdom of Sri Lanka), Sigiriya (famous for Sigiriya frescoes ), the Temple of Dambulla (a cave), the sacred city of Anuradhapura (First Kingdom of SL), and the sacred city of Kandy (famous for Temple of Tooth Relic).
Apart from those Cultural Triangle attraction, Sri Lanka also has some other World Heritage Sites such as The Sinharaja Forest and city of Galle (Famous for dutch built Galle Fort).The Sinharaja Forest is a tropical rain forest which has very rich bio-diversity.
